OC Launches New Testing Site, Approves Multi-Lingual COVID-19 Call Center

Starting tomorrow, August 26, the County of Orange will be opening a second large-scale testing operation at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa.

“We are working to deliver free COVID-19 testing to everyone in Orange County within priority groups,” said Supervisor Andrew Do, who authored the county's first mask ordinance.

The County is also taking action to ensure that public health information is available in more languages. At Tuesday’s meeting, county supervisors unanimously approved Supervisor Andrew Do’s proposal to establish a multilingual call center and website to assist the public with access to COVID testing and other county resources.

“It’s important that we continue to have a strong focus on individuals who face social and economic disparities that cause them to be more greatly impacted than others,” said Supervisor Andrew Do, who authored the County’s Language Access for All Policy back in April. “That is why today’s item calls to action an immediate call center that can assist the public with vital resources.”

In late June, Supervisor Do, alongside Supervisor Doug Chaffee – who both form the Orange County Testing Ad Hoc Committee – announced the launch of the Latino Health Equity Initiative to eliminate barriers that keep residents from accessing vital COVID related information. A month later, both Supervisors announced the first county-run drive-thru testing site at the Anaheim Convention Center – which now has a dedicated line for First Responders and can take walk-up appointments.

The no-cost testing sites offered by the county comes in partnership with 360 Clinic and Fulgent Genetics. The locations serve Orange County residents who meet Public Health priorities for testing and cannot get a test through their medical provider (doctor or insurance provider).

“Many Orange County residents are unaware of how to get a COVID-19 test or are unable to register for testing due to language or technological barriers,” said Vice Chairman Do. “We are moving in the right direction.”

Orange County’s four county-run testing operations bolster the local testing capacity, enabling more symptomatic and asymptomatic Orange County residents within priority groups to access free contactless testing with quick turnaround times on results.
